Michael John Harakel, Jr., 71, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania and formerly of Frackville, Pennsylvania, died on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Billie Jean (nee Schuetrumpf) Harakel to whom he was married 35 years ago on May 15, 1982. Born in Frackville on December 29, 1945, Michael was the son of the late Michael, Sr. and Mabel (nee Wagner) Harakel. A 1965 graduate of the former Frackville High School, he worked for Poly Plastics in Delano, Pennsylvania for 29 years, retiring in 2011. Michael was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Frackville and attended Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Tamaqua. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; a lifelong Yankees fan, and liked to dance “to the oldies”. Michael is survived by his, wife, Billie Jean; daughter, Lisa Geronimo and her husband, Marcello of Tamaqua; son, Michael Harakel, III of Tamaqua; step granddaughter, Gabriella Geronimo; twin sister, Mary Lou Acker and her husband, David of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and several nephews and nieces. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 16 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, 500 West Broad Street, Tamaqua will follow the services. Call 9-11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
