Michael Casino, 100, of 701 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA and formerly of Tamaqua, PA, died Thursday March 27, 2008 in Grandview Hospital, Sellersville, PA. He was the husband of the late Harriet (nee Schuler) Cassino who died in January of 1991. Born in Palermo, Italy, he was a son of the late Frank and Providence (nee Ambrogio) Casino. Michael was a member of St. Mary Manor Chapel, Lansdale, PA. He was the oldest and only surviving member of the first graduating class (1927) of the former St. Jerome High School, Tamaqua. A graduate of St. Josephs College, Philadelphia, he was the oldest living alumnus of the college. Mike began his career with The Evening Courier in 1930 where he was employed for 11 years having served as Editor while employed there. After that he worked for the Philadelphia Record for 4 years and then was employed by the Philadelphia Inquirer for 24 years until his retirement. Mike was active in the American Newspaper Guild serving as the President of the Philadelphia Local and for 4 years as the chairman of the Philadelphia Inquirer Unit of the Guild. A member of the Fr. Henry Baker Council of the Knights of Columbus, he was also the council's oldest member. He is the last member of his immediate family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 31, St. Mary Manor Chapel, 701 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, PA with The Rev. Edward Cahill officiating. Call 10-11 AM, Monday, at the Chapel. Interment in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hilltown, PA will follow the service. Arrangements are being handled by the Zizlemann-Roche Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, PA.
