Gladys I. Hinkle, 85, of Weatherly, PA died at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Born in Weatherly on August 9, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Eva (nee Craiglow) DeFrain. Gladys was married to The Rev. Richard L. Hinkle on May 28, 1961 and they have enjoyed a fantastic marriage for 57 years. Their daughter, Margaret, born in June 1962, is the wife of H. James Elvin, Jr. and they reside in Mount Joy, PA. A graduate of Weatherly High School Class of 1951, Gladys worked for 10 years at Tung Sol in Weatherly. She is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hazleton, PA. As a pastor’s wife, she was engaged in various church activities, including Lutheran Church Women, church choir, sewing circle and Sunday School where she taught. Gladys loved to entertain, cooking and baking for friends and family and was an expert quilter and seamstress. Her gentle spirit and kindness will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was intelligent, insightful, well loved and respected by all. Gladys is survived by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, as well as a sister, Margaret M Kistler of Hazleton, PA and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice D. James. Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 210 West Green Street, Hazleton, PA at 11 AM on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
