Doris M. Snyder Wenzel, 98, of Jim Thorpe, PA, where she resided the last 60 plus years, died on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at home. She was the wife of the late William P. Wenzel who died in 2008 and the late Richard L. Snyder who died in 1970. Born in Summit Hill, PA on February 15, 1919, Doris was a daughter of the late Jacob Thomas Llewellyn, Sr. and Caroline Wilhemina (nee Haase) Llewellyn. An honors graduate of the former Summit Hill High School, she spent her early adult years as a wife, mother, homemaker, and Berkley Bags pocketbook factory worker. After the death of her first husband, Doris attended the Carbon County Vocational Technical School’s LPN program from which she graduated with honors. She then became employed as a LPN at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton, PA where she remained for 15 years until her retirement. Doris and her second husband spent their retirement years attending senior group meetings and activities, traveling with the seniors, visiting hospitalized and shut ins, and just being “on the go”. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in the Heights, Jim Thorpe. Doris was also predeceased by her son, Richard W. Snyder, in 1980 and her 7 siblings, William C. Llewellyn, Zello Llewellyn, Martha Windbeck, Mina Sheehan, baby Thomas Llewellyn, Jacob T. Llewellyn, and Samuel W. Llewellyn and their spouses. Surviving her are daughter, Cheryl Crawford and her husband, The Rev. Fred; daughter in law, Sandra Snyder Gallagher and her husband, Jim; grandson, Richard L. Snyder and his family, wife Deb and children Kaitlyn and Cadyn; grandson, Fred T. Crawford, IV and his family, wife Allison and children Michael, Anna, and Eliza; granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Crawford Howard and her family, husband Juan and children Jericho and Kalinda; a stepdaughter; and assorted step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Heights, 319 South Avenue, Jim Thorpe with The Rev. Peter Muir officiating.
