Donald J. Evans, 91, of Clay Street, Tamaqua, PA died on Tuesday, March 20, in Weatherly, PA. He was the husband of Kathryn (nee Lehotta) Evans to whom he was married 66 years. Born January 19, 1927, Donald was a son of the late John and Ruth (nee Kleckner) Evans. A 1944 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he served in the Army during World War II. Donald was employed as a mail carrier in Tamaqua for 39 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the Tamaqua American Legion C. H. Berry Post #173 for over 70 years and was also a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Tamaqua. Donald was an avid Tamaqua sports fan. Surviving with his wife Kathryn are daughter, Susan Baddick and her husband Daniel of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Eric Baddick and his wife Jolene of Wilmington, Delaware and Maureen Creitz and her husband Ronald of Towson, Maryland; great grandchildren, Evan Baddick, Devin Creitz; and Gabrielle Creitz; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, John Evans who was killed at Pearl Harbor in 1941; a sister, Helen Carpenter; and a half sister, Jean Mangan. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 24 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy officiating. Call 9-10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date.
