Prayer Samples

Compiled here are approximately one hundred prayers that can be used for either prayer cards or memorial folders. We have posted them on our web-site specifically for families who would like to spend more time selecting an appropriate verse than an arrangement session would otherwise allow. Please note that this is by no means an exhaustive list; we can create prayer cards or memorial folders using any prayer, verse, or poem of appropriate length.

Biblical Verses

  • The 121st Psalm

    The 121st Psalm

    I will lift mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper:

    the Lord is thy shade upon thy hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

  • The 23rd Psalm

    The 23rd Psalm

    The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  • John 14:1-3

    John 14:1-3

    Let not your hearts be troubled;
    believe in God, believe also in Me.
    In my Father's house are many rooms;
    if it were not so, would I have told you that I go and prepare a place for you?
    And when I go and prepare a place
    for you, I will come again and will
    take you to Myself, that where I am
    you may be also.

  • The Lord’s Prayer

    The Lord's Prayer

    Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

  • Order for the Burial of the Deceased

    Order for the Burial of the Deceased

    I am the resurrection and the Life, Sayeth the Lord: He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die.
    I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though his body be destroyed, yet shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

  • Revelation 21:4

    Revelation 21:4

    God hath not promised Skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways All our lives through; God hath not promised Sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain. But God hath promised Strength for the day, Rest for the labor, Light for the way Grace for the trials, Help from above. Unfailing sympathy, Undying love... And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

  • Memorare

    Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help, and sought Thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother! To Thee I come, before Thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. Oh Mother of the Word incarnate despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and answer me.

  • Our Father

  • Prayer to St. Anthony

    Prayer to St. Anthony

    Holy Saint Anthony, gentle and powerful in your help, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were always ready to request for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me [request]. The answer to my prayer may require a miracle. Even so, you are the Saint of miracles. Gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart is ever full of human sympathy, take my petition to the Infant Savior for whom you have such a great love, and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

  • Prayer of St. Augustine

    Watch thou, dear Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight and give your angels charge over those who sleep.

  • Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

    Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

    Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace.
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is doubt, faith;
    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    and where there is sadness, joy.
    O Divine Master, grant that I
    may not so much seek
    to be consoled, as to console;
    To be understood, as to understand;
    To be loved, as to love;
    For it is in giving that we receive;
    It is pardoning that we are pardoned
    And it is in dying, that we are
    born to eternal life.

  • Prayer of St. Ignatius

    Prayer of St. Ignatius

    Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess You have given me. I surrender it all to You to be disposed of according to Your will. Give me only Your love and Your grace; with these I will be rich enough,
    and will desire nothing more.

  • Prayer to St. Joseph

    Prayer to St. Joseph

Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine foster-Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; so that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen.

  • Prayer to St. Jude

    Prayer to St. Jude

    St. Jude, glorious Apostle, faithful
    servant and friend of Jesus, the
    name of the traitor has caused you
    to be forgotten by many, but the
    true Church invokes you universally
    as the Patron of things despaired
    of; pray for me, who am so miserable
    pray for me, that finally I may
    receive the consolations and the
    succor of Heaven in all my necessities,
    tribulations and sufferings,
    and I may bless God with the Elect
    throughout Eternity. Amen.

  • Prayer of St. Pucci

    Prayer of St. Pucci

    We give Him back to you, O Lord, who gave Him to us. Yet as You did not lose Him in giving, so we do not lose Him by His return. Not as the world gives, do you give O Lover of souls. What you give you do not take away, for what is yours is ours also if we are Yours. And life is eternal and love is immortal and death is only a horizon and a horizon is nothing but the limit of our sight. Lift us up, strong son of God that we may see further; cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly; draw us closer to yourself that we may know ourselves to be nearer to our loved ones who are with you. And while you prepare a place for us, prepare us also for that happy place that where you are we may be also.

  • Prayer of Solace

  • Salve Regina

    Salve Regina

    Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy; hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
    To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

  • Unfailing Prayer to St. Anthony

    Unfailing Prayer to St. Anthony

    O glorious St. Anthony, safe refuge of the afflicted and distressed. Who by miraculous revelation has directed all those who seek aid to come to Thy altar with the promise that whosoever visits it for nine consecutive Tuesdays, and there piously invokes Thee, will feel the power of Thy intercession. I, a poor sinner, encouraged by this promise, come to Thee, O powerful Saint, and with a firm hope I implore Thy aid, Thy protection, Thy counsel and Thy blessing. Obtain for me, I beseech Thee, my request in this necessity. But if it should be opposed to the will of God and the welfare of my soul, obtain for me such other graces as shall be conducive of my salvation. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Children's Prayers

  • An Angel in Heaven

    An Angel in Heaven

    God needed an angel in Heaven
    To stand at the Savior's feet;
    His choice must be the rarest
    A lily pure and sweet.
    He gazed upon the mighty throng
    Then stopped and picked the best,
    Our child was His chosen one
    With Jesus she's [he's] now at rest.

  • To the Child of My Heart

    To the Child of My Heart

    O precious, tiny sweet little one
    You will always be to me
    So perfect, pure and innocent
    Just as you were meant to be.
    We dreamed of you and of your life
    And all that it would be
    We waited and longed for you to
    come and join our family
    We never had the chance to play.
    To laugh, to rock to wiggle
    We long to hold you, touch you
    now we listed to you giggle.
    I'll always be your mother,
    He'll always be your dad.
    You will always be our child,
    the child that we had.
    But now you're gone . . .but
    yet you're here.
    You are our sorrow and our joy,
    there's love in every tear.
    Just know our love goes deep
    and strong.
    We'll forget you never.
    The child we had, but never had,
    and yet will have forever.

  • A Child's Prayer

    A Child's Prayer

    "Now I lay me down to sleep; I pray thee, Lord, my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to take."

  • The Little Ship

    The Little Ship

    I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted his white sails with a golden light, and as he disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, "He is gone". But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and, at the very moment when my companion had whispered, "He is gone" a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, "Here he comes!"

  • A Place Where Children Are

    A Place Where Children Are

    What kind of place would heaven be with all its streets of gold, if all the souls, that dwell up there like yours and mine, were old? How strange would heaven's music sound when harps begin to ring, if children were not gathered ´round to help the angels sing. The children that God sends to us are only just a loan, He knows we need their sunshine to make the house a home. We need the inspiration of a baby's blessed smile. He doesn't say they've come to stay, just lends them for a while. Sometimes it takes them years to do the work for which they come. Sometimes in just a month or two our Father calls them home. I like to think some souls up there bear not one sinful scar. I love to think of heaven as a place where children are.

  • Remembering

    Go ahead and Mention my child,
    The one that died, you know.
    Don't worry about hurting me further.
    The depth of my pain doesn't show.
    Don't worry about making me cry.
    I'm already crying inside.
    Help me heal by releasing
    The tears that I try and hide.
    I'm hurt when you just keep silent,
    Pretending he didn't exist.
    I'd rather you mention my child,
    Knowing that he has been missed.
    You asked me how I was doing.
    I say "pretty good" or "fine"
    But healing is something ongoing.
    I feel it will take a lifetime.

Family Prayers

  • A Father

    A Father

    A dad is a person
    Who's loving and kind,
    And often he knows
    What you have on your mind.
    He's someone who listens,
    Suggests and defends...
    A dad can be one
    Of your very best friends!
    He's proud of your triumphs,
    But when things go wrong,
    A dad can be patient
    And helpful and strong.
    In all that you do
    A dad's love plays a part -
    There's always a place for him
    Deep in your heart -
    And each year that passes,
    You're even more glad,
    More grateful and proud
    Just to call him your dad!

  • A Mother

    A Mother

    You can only have one mother
    Patient kind and true;
    No other friend in all the world,
    Will be the same to you.
    When other friends forsake you,
    To mother you will return,
    For all her loving kindness,
    She asks nothing in return.
    As we look upon her picture,
    Sweet memories we recall,
    Of a face so full of sunshine,
    And a smile for one and all.
    Sweet Jesus, take this message,
    To our dear mother up above;
    Tell her how we miss her,
    And give her all our love.

  • Poem To a Parent

    Poem To a Parent

    We sat beside your bedside,
    Our hearts were crushed
    and sore;
    We did our best to the end,
    'Til we could do no more.
    In tears we watched
    you sinking,
    We watched you fade away;
    And though our hearts
    were breaking,
    We knew you could not stay.
    You left behind some
    aching hearts,
    That loved you most sincere;
    We never shall and never will
    Forget you Mother [Father] dear.

Fireman's Prayer

  • Fireman's Prayer

    Fireman's Prayer

    When I am called to duty, God,
    Where-ever flames may rage,
    Give me strength to save some life,
    What ever be it's age.
    Help me embrace a little child,
    Before it is too late,
    Or save an older person from
    The horror of that fate.
    Enable me to be alert and to hear the
    weakest shout,
    And quickly and efficiently,
    To put the fire out.
    I want to fill my calling and
    To give the best in me,
    To guard my every neighbour and
    Protect his property.
    And if according to my fate,
    I am to lose my life,
    Please bless with your protective hand,
    My family, friends, and wife.

  • An Irish Blessing

    An Irish Blessing

    May the road rise to meet you,
    May the wind
    be always at your back.
    May the sun

    soft upon your fields
    And until we meet
    again may God hold you
    in the palm of his hand.

  • Prayer to St. Patrick

    Prayer to St. Patrick

    O Great Apostle of Ireland, glorious St. Patrick, to whom under God, so many are indebted for the most precious of all treasures, the great gift of Faith, receive our fervent thanks for the zeal and charity which have been to thousands the source of blessings so invaluable. Ask for all who dwell in this land and the land of thy labors, the precious light of Faith, and beg for us on whom its glorious rays have long since beamed, the grace to regulate our lives by its sacred maxims.

Non-denominational Prayers

  • After Glow

    After Glow

    I'd like the memory of me
    to be a happy one,
    I'd like to leave an afterglow
    of smiles when life is done.
    I'd like to leave an echo
    whispering softly down the ways,
    Of happy times and laughing times
    and bright and sunny days.
    I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
    to dry before the sun
    Of happy memories that I leave
    When life is done.

  • A Little Step Away

    A Little Step Away

    To close the eye, to fall asleep, to draw a labored breath, to find release from daily cares in what we know as death - Is this the crowning of life, the aim or end thereof? The totaled sum of consciousness, the ripened fruit of love? It cannot be, for works of God are wrought for nobler ends, and those away continue on in the hearts of kin and friends. It cannot be, for they live on a little step away, the soul, the everlasting life, has found a better day.

  • Another Leaf

    Another Leaf

    Another leaf has fallen,
    another soul has gone.
    But still we have God's promises,
    in every robin's song.
    For he is in His heaven,
    and though He takes away,
    He always leaves to mortals,
    the bright sun's kindly ray.
    He leaves the fragrant blossoms,
    and lovely forest, green.
    And gives us new found comfort,
    when we on Him will lean.

  • Beautiful Memories

    Beautiful Memories

    A bouquet of beautiful memories,
    Sprayed with a million tears,
    Wishing God could have
    spared you,
    If just for a few more years.
    It does not take a special day,
    For us to think of you,
    Each Mass we hear,
    Each prayer we say,
    Is offered up for you.
    We cannot bring the old days back,
    When we were all together,
    Our family chain is broken now,
    But memories live for ever.

  • Broken Chain

    Broken Chain

    Little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
    In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
    It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone;
    for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
    You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
    and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side.
    Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same,
    but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

  • Come, Ye Disconsolate

    Come, Ye Disconsolate

    Come, ye disconsolate, wherever you languish,
    Come, at God's altar fervently kneel;
    Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish--
    Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
    Joy of the desolate, Light of the straying,
    Hope, when all others die, fadeless and pure,
    Here speaks the Comforter, in God's name saying--
    "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot cure."
    Go, ask the infidel, what boon he brings us
    What charm for aching hearts He can reveal,
    Sweet as that heavenly promise Hope sings us--
    "Earth has no sorrow that God cannot heal."

  • The Day God Took You Home

    The Day God Took You Home

    In tears we saw you sinking,
    And watched you pass away.
    Our hearts were almost broken,
    We wanted you to stay.
    But when we saw you sleeping,
    So peaceful, free from pain,
    How could we wish you back with us,
    To suffer that again.
    It broke our hearts to lose you,
    But you did not go alone,
    For part of us went with you,
    The day God took you home.

  • Do Not Cry

    Do Not Cry

    Do not cry, I have gone to God. I will wait for
    you in Heaven where the family will be gathered
    and the tears will be dried. You whom I loved so
    much on earth pray for me, live always in a manner
    so that we may be together in Heaven. Rejoice
    with me who leave this earth of sorrow to go and
    prepare a peaceful place for you. Death has
    separated us, but the memory and the prayers will
    unite us again. Heart of Jesus be my love...
    Heart of Mary be my salvation. Goodbye, my
    loved ones, see you all in Heaven.

  • Do Not Weep

    Do Not Weep

    Do not stand at my grave and weep;
    I am not there. I do not sleep.
    I am a thousand winds that blow.
    I am the diamond glints on snow.
    I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
    I am the gentle autumn rain.
    When you awaken in the morning's hush
    I am the swift uplifting rush
    Of quiet birds in circled flight.
    I am the soft stars that shine at night.
    Do not stand at my grave and cry;
    I am not there. I did not die.

  • Fill Not Your Heart with Sorrow

    Fill Not Your Heart with Sorrow

    Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles. I’ve only gone to rest for a while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am but as I used to be. Because, I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand in your hearts, I’ve only gone to rest a while. As long as I have the love of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

  • Finally Home

    Finally Home

    Just think of stepping on shore—and finding it heaven!
    Of touching a hand—and finding it God’s!
    Of breathing new air—and finding it celestial!
    Of waking up in glory—and finding it home!

  • Footprints

    One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints, and he realized that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
    Bothered about this, he questioned the Lord. “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.”
    The Lord replied, “My son, My precious child, I love you, and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

  • God's Garden

    God’s Garden

    God looked around His garden
    And found an empty place.
    He then looked down upon the earth
    And saw your tired face.
    He put his arms around you
    And lifted you to rest.
    God’s garden must be beautiful
    He always takes the best.
    He saw the road was getting rough
    And the hills were hard to climb,
    So He closed your weary eyelids
    And whispered "Peace be thine".
    It broke our hearts to lose you
    But you didn’t go alone,
    For part of us went with you
    The day God called you home.

  • Guardian Angel

    Guardian Angel

    Guardian Angel from heaven so bright, watching beside me to lead me aright, fold thy wings round me, and guard me with love, softly sing songs to me of heaven above. Amen.

  • I am Home in Heaven

    I am Home in Heaven

    I am home in Heaven, dear ones:
    Oh, so happy and so bright!
    There is perfect joy and beauty
    In this Everlasting Light.
    All the pain and grief are over!
    Every restless yearning past;
    I am now at peace forever,
    Safely Home in Heaven at last.
    Dear one, do not grieve so sorely,
    For I love you dearly still;
    Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
    Pray to trust Our Father’s Will.
    When your work is completed,
    He will gently call you Home;
    Oh! the rapture of that meeting!
    Oh, the joy to see you come.

  • I Said a Prayer For You Today

    I Said a Prayer For You Today

    I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard. I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word! I didn’t ask for wealth of fame (I knew you wouldn’t mind). I asked Him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind! I asked that He’d be near you at the start of each new day; to grant your health and blessings and friends to share your way! I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small. But it was for His loving care I prayed for the most of all!

  • I'm Free

    I’m Free

    Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free;
    I took His hand when I heard him call;
    I turned my back and left it all.
    If my parting has left a void;
    Then fill it with remembered joy.
    My life’s been full, I savored much;
    Good friends, good times,
    a loved one’s touch.
    A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
    Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.
    Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
    Lift up your hearts and share with me; God wanted me now, God set me free.

  • A Little Prayer

    A Little Prayer

    When you’re alone with Jesus
    And he sweetly smiles on thee,
    Will you gently whisper to Him
    A little prayer for me?
    And when I’m alone with Jesus
    And all else is hid from view,
    I’ll gently drop into His Sacred Heart
    A little prayer for you.

  • The Legend of the Dogwood Tree

    The Legend of the Dogwood Tree

    At the time of Crucifixion, the dogwood had been the size of the oak and other forest trees. So firm and strong was the tree that it was chosen as the timber for the cross. To be used thus for such a cruel purpose caused the tree great distress and grief. Jesus observed this, and in His gentle pity for all sorrow and suffering, made the tree this promise.
    "Never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted. Its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross with the print of the nails in each petal. In the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns, and all who see it will remember that it was upon a dogwood tree that I was crucified. Therefore this tree shall not be destroyed, but cherished as a reminder of my death upon the cross.”

  • Miss Me, But Let Me Go

    Miss Me, But Let Me Go

    When I come to the end of the road
    and the sun has set for me,
    I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
    Why cry for a soul set free!
    Miss me a little, but not too long,
    and not with your head bowed low.
    Remember the love that we
    once shared,
    Miss me but let me go.
    For this journey we all must take,
    and each must go alone.
    It’s all part of the Master plan,
    A step on the road to home.
    When you are lonely and sick of heart,
    Go to the friends we know
    And bury your sorrows in doing
    good deeds.
    Miss me, but let me go.

  • O Gentlest Heart

    O Gentlest Heart

    O gentlest heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls, have mercy on the soul of thy departed servant. Be not severe in Thy judgment but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames, and do Thou O Merciful Saviour, send Thy Angels to conduct Thy departed servant to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

  • One Little Rose

    One Little Rose

    I would rather have a little rose
    From the garden of a friend,
    Than have the choicest flowers
    When my stay on earth shall end.
    I would rather have the kindest words
    And a smile that I can see,
    Than flattery when my heart is still
    And this life ceased to be.
    I would rather have a loving smile
    From the friends I know are true,
    Than tears shed around my casket
    When the world I bid adieu.

  • Passing Beyond Sight

    Passing Beyond Sight

    Those we love must someday pass
    beyond our present sight...
    Must leave us and the world we know
    without their radiant light.
    But we know that like a candle
    their lovely light will surely shine
    To brighten up another place
    more perfect... more divine.
    And in the realm of Heaven
    where they shine so warm
    and bright.
    Our loved ones live forevermore
    in God ’s eternal light.

  • Poem of Life

    Poem of Life

    Life is but a stopping place,
    A pause in what’s to be,
    A resting place along the road
    to sweet eternity.
    We all have different journeys,
    Different paths along the way,
    We all were meant to learn
    some things,
    But never meant to stay.
    Our destination is a place
    far greater than we know,
    For some, the journey’s quicker,
    For some the journey’s slow.
    And when the journey finally ends,
    We’ll claim a great reward,
    And find an everlasting peace,
    Together with the Lord.

    Prayer for all the Faithful Departed

    O God,
    The Creator and Redeemer
    Of all the Faithful,
    Grant to the Souls
    Of Thy Servants departed
    The remission of all their sins;
    That though pious supplications
    They may obtain the pardon
    Which they have always desired
    Who livest and reignest
    World without end. Amen.

  • Prayer for Your Kingdom

    Prayer for Your Kingdom

    God, Your days are without end,
    Your mercies beyond counting.
    Help us always to remember that
    life is short and the day of our death
    is known to you alone.
    May your Holy Spirit lead us to live
    in holiness and justice all our days.
    Then, after serving you in the
    fellowship of Your church, with
    strong faith, consoling hope, and
    perfect love for all, may we joyfully
    come to Your kingdom.
    We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

  • The Precious Gift

    The Precious Gift

    One gift, above all others God
    gives to us to treasure.
    One that knows no time, no place
    and one gold cannot measure.
    The precious, poignant, tender
    gift of memory--
    that will keep our dear ones
    ever in our hearts although
    God gives them sleep.
    It brings back long remembered
    things a song, a word, a smile and
    our world's a better place --
    because we had them for awhile!

  • Remembrance

    You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he’s gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he’d want, smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

  • Resurrection Prayer

    Resurrection Prayer

    Most merciful Father, we commend our departed into your hands. We are filled with the sure hope that our departed will rise again on the Last Day with all who have died in Christ. We thank you for all the good things you have given during our departed’s earthly life. O Father, in your great mercy, accept our prayer that the Gates of Paradise may be opened for your servant. In our turn, may we too be comforted by the words of faith until we greet Christ in glory and are united with you and our departed. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  • The Rose of Sharon

    The Rose of Sharon

    And He was called
    The Rose of Sharon.
    This son, God gave us all.
    And life like a rose,
    Starts just a bud.
    And toward its end,
    The petals fall.

  • If Roses Grow in Heaven

    If Roses Grow in Heaven

    If roses grow in Heaven Lord
    Please pick a bunch for me.
    Place them in my Mother's arms
    and tell her they're from me.
    Tell her I love her and miss her,
    and when she turns to smile,
    Place a kiss upon her cheek
    and hold her for a while.
    Because remembering her is easy,
    I do it everyday,
    But there is an ache within my heart
    That will never go away.

  • Safely Home

    Safely Home

    I am home in heaven, dear ones; oh, so happy and so bright! There is a perfect joy and beauty in the everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, safely home in heaven at last. There is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand, do it now, while life remaineth – you shall rest in God’s own land. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you home; oh, the rapture of that meeting oh, the joy to see you come!

  • Serenity Prayer

    Serenity Prayer

    God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace. Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

  • Should You Go First

    Should You Go First

    Should you go first and I remain,
    to walk the road alone,
    I’ll live in memories garden, dear,
    with happy days we’ve known.
    In spring I’ll wait for roses red,
    when faded, the lilacs blue.
    In early fall when brown leaves fall,
    I’ll catch a glimpse of you.
    I’ll hear your voice, I’ll see your
    smile, though blindly I may grope,
    The memory of your helping hand
    will buoy me on with hope.
    Should you go first and I remain,
    one thing I’ll have you do:
    Walk slowly down that long, long
    path, for soon I’ll follow you.
    I want to know each step you take,
    So I may take the same.
    For someday down that lonely road,
    you’ll hear me call your name.

  • Sudden Parting

    Sudden Parting

    The blow was great, the shock severe,
    We little thought the end was near.
    And only those who have lost can tell
    The pain of parting without farewell.
    It broke our hearts to lose you,
    But you did not go alone.
    A part of us went with you,
    The day God called you home.
    Nothing can ever take away,
    The love a heart holds dear.
    Fond memories linger every day,
    Remembrance keeps him [her] near.

  • Sunny Skies

    Sunny Skies

    All sunny skies would
    be too bright,
    All morning hours mean
    too much light,
    All laughing days too
    gay a strain;
    There must be clouds,
    and night, and rain,
    And shut-in days, to
    make us see the
    beauty of life's tapestry.

  • There Comes a Time

    There Comes a Time

    There comes a time for all of us
    when we must say good-bye,
    But faith and hope and love
    and trust can never, never die.
    Although the curtain falls at last
    is that a cause to grieve?
    The future’s fairer than the past
    if only we believe
    And trust in God’s eternal care--
    So when the Master calls
    let’s say that life is still more fair
    although the curtain falls.

  • To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me

    To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me

    When I am gone, release me. Let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many beautiful years. I gave to you my love. You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life hoes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, “Welcome home..."

    A time for sharing, a time for

    a time for parting. You have made
    everything beautiful in its time for
    everything you do remains forever.

  • Turn Again to Life

    Turn Again to Life

    If I should die and leave you here awhile,
    Be not like others, sore and undone,
    Who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep.
    For my sake - turn again to life and smile
    Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do
    Something to comfort other hearts than thine.
    Complete those dear unfinished tasks of mine
    And I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

    we remember you.
    At the blueness of the skies, and in the warmth of summer,

    We miss you now, our hearts are sore,
    As time goes by we miss you more.
    Your loving smile, your gentle face:

  • When I Must Leave You

    When I Must Leave You

    When I must leave you for a little while -
    Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
    And hug your sorrow to you through the years.
    But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
    And for my sake and in my name
    Live on and do all things the same,
    Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
    But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
    Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
    And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
    And never, never be afraid to die,
    For I am waiting for you in the sky!

  • Your Gentle Face

    Your Gentle Face

    Your gentle face and patient smile.
    With sadness we recall
    You had a kindly word for each
    And died beloved by all.

    That loved us well and true.
    Ah, bitter was the trial to part
    From one so good as you.
    You are not forgotten loved one
    Nor will you ever be
    As long as life and memory last
    We will remember thee.
    We miss you now, our hearts are sore,
    As time goes by we miss you more,
    Your loving smile, your gentle face

  • A Bright New World

    A Bright New World

    We feel so sad when those we love
    Are touched by deaths dark hand,
    But it would ease our sorrow
    If we could but understand
    That death is just a gateway
    That all men must pass through
    And on the other side of death,
    In a world that's bright and new,
    Our loved ones wait to welcome us
    To that land free from tears
    Where joy becomes eternal
    And time is not counted by years.

  • Come to Me

    Come to Me

    God saw she getting tired
    And a cure was not to be.
    So He put his arms around her
    And whispered, “Come to Me.”
    With tearful eyes we watched her suffer
    And saw her pass away.
    And although we loved her dearly,
    We could not make you stay.
    A golden heart stopped beating,
    Hard working hands at rest.
    God broke our hearts to prove to us
    He only takes the best.

  • The Eternal Goodness

    The Eternal Goodness

    I know not what the future hath
    Of marvel or surprise,
    Assured alone that life and death
    His mercy underlies.
    And if my heart and flesh are weak
    To bear an untried pain,
    The bruised reed He will not break,
    But strengthen and sustain.
    No offering of my own I have,
    Nor works my faith to prove;
    I can but give the gifts He gave,
    And plead His love for love.
    And so beside the Silent Sea
    I wait the muffled oar;
    No harm from Him can come to me
    On ocean or on shore.
    I know not where His islands lift
    Their fronded palms in air;
    I only know I cannot drift
    Beyond His love and care.

  • High Flight

    High Flight

    Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
    Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace where never lark, or ever eagle flew —And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
    Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

  • His Journey's Just Begun

    His Journey’s Just Begun

    Don’t think of him as gone away –
    his journey’s just begun;
    life holds so many facets –
    this earth is only one.
    Just think of him as resting
    from the sorrows and the tears
    in a place of warmth and comfort
    where there are no days and years.
    Think how he must be wishing
    that we could know, today,
    how nothing but our sadness
    can really pass away.
    And think of him as living
    in the hearts of those he touched…
    for nothing loved is ever lost –
    and he was loved so much.

  • I Cannot Think of Them as Dead

    I Cannot Think of Them as Dead

    I cannot think of them as dead
    Who walk with me no more;
    Along the path of life I tread
    They have but gone before.
    The Father's house is mansioned fair
    Beyond my vision dim;
    All souls are his, and here, or there,
    Are living unto him.
    And still their silent ministry
    Within my heart hath place,
    As when on earth they walked with me
    And met me face to face.
    Their lives are made forever mine;
    What they to me have been
    Hath left henceforth its seal and sign
    Engraven deep within.
    Mine are they by an ownership
    Nor time nor death can free;
    For God hath given to love to keep
    Its own eternally.

  • Sunset and Evening Star

    Sunset and Evening Star

    Sunset and evening star,
    And one clear call for me!
    And may there be no moaning of the bar,
    When I put out to sea,
    But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
    Too full for sound and foam,
    When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.
    Twilight and evening bell,
    And after that the dark!
    And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;
    For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
    The flood may bear me far,
    I hope to see my Pilot face to face
    When I have crost the bar.
